Putting everything togeather

The Hull and Wing is now mated. Its time to put everything togeather and see how it fits.

Putting the very large flap in place.

Setting the aileron in place. Getting all three hinges aligned was a lot of fun. Ha. Ha.

Flap and aileron in place and gap is really good. the closer the gap the better the wind flow over the whole wing.

A good look of the flap in the retracted position. Gap is good.

Building the Elevator

This was a fun step. I had to melt lead and pour it into a mold. This is a counter weight for the elevator.

Once the Horizontal Stabilizer was dry I had to cut off the elevator, attach the torque tube, and hinges.

Working on the bulk head for the elevator.

Attaching the hinge.

Finishing up. All is done and its time to put it all together and check the fit. If all fits good its time for paint.

Building the Horizontal Stabilizer

Building the Horizontal Stabilizer was the second biggest job so far. Here I'm building the inside.

Once the frame was completed I had to prep the lower side to mate the frame.

The lower skin and frame is in the jig to dry.

All dry.

Putting on the upper skin.

Building the Rudder

Again, playing with Hysol. Interior is done.

Top is going on.

Rig is in place ready for drying.

All dry and electrical cables in place for position light and camera.

Building Flaps

Installing all the ribs inside the flaps.

All ribs installed on port and starboard flaps. Ready for the top.

Installing the tops.

Placing the in the jig for drying.

Flaps are dry, ready to put on wing, check alignment, and go to paint.

Building the Aileron

Working on the Aileron. Setting up the interior for the electrical system.

Inside is done and the top is going on.

Working on the hinges. Making sure the flaps moving up and down smoothly.

Adding the counter weight to keep the aileron centered.

Putting on the trim tab. Ready to put on wing, check for alignment, and send to bank.

Building the Wing

Main Wing. Ready for a lot of work. No metal in this wing. 100% Carbon fiber. The forward wing spar is lighten enough to lift up.

Working on the gear box. All the weight of landing will be absorbed in this box. Carbon fiber is a great material. It suck to work with. If you have ever worked with fiber glass this stuff is worse. You itch for days.

Finishing off the tank seal. As with most aircraft fuel tanks; the wing is called wet. This means all the fuel is inside of the wing. No bladder. This stuff smells like rotten eggs.

Everything inside the wing is complete. The last thing to do is add Hysol (super super glue) and place the top wing skin in its final resting place.

And a finished wing. Ready to mate to the hull, check alignment, and send to paint.

Working on the Hull

Setting up the hull. Making sure the firewall is square to the starboard hull.

The Port side is set in place.

Applying the Hysol (super super glue) to the door way.

The hull is upright. Straight as an arrow.
