Day 27 Project Iron Wolf

The day to get the body put onto the frame. The suspension is going together, but I need the body to be set into place so I can get the axles set into place and rock sliders set into place.

It took six guy to lift the body off my other scout and put it on the frame of Iron Wolf.

In this picture you can see the garage door is very close to the windshield hoop. 4" of clearance.

Set in place. In this picture you can see the new body bushing and the 3" body lift.

Another view. 39.5" Irok and Hummer set in place. In this picture you can see some of the suspension with the coil in place on left side. The height of the Scout should drop about 2". Still pretty tall.

Day 26 Project Iron Wolf

Recieved most of the suspension from D&C Extreem. This set of pictures are the rear suspension all set in place.

This picture is the frame insert all welded up. This ties the rear four link and front three link to the frame.

Good shot of the right side. Everything is tacked awaiting the drive train. I need to have the tranny, NP231 Box 4 Rocks doubler kit, and Dana 300 to go in so I can set pinion angle.

Dana 60. Fresh from the East coast.

All cleaned up and painted.

New breaks and 3" spacer to help with back spacing of thoes hummer rims.

Day 23 Project Iron Wolf

This is the fifth day that I have been working on the body work. I now know why it cost so much money to get a car painted. This is a tough job. I am very glad that this body is in great shape.

I have two of the panels about 60 % done. I'm glad to report that there is only about an 1/8" of bondo at the thickest.

Hood. The black paint that was sprayed on to protect the body did a great job. The bad thing is this stuff is a pain to get off. I think they sprayed a rubberized undercoating on the whole truck.

A little more and the hood will be ready for the glaze.

Had to put this picture in. It is a humming bird in her nest. She is in the tree next to our house and looks down at me working. Very cool.

Day 22 Project Iron Wolf

After a few weeks crawling in and out of my attic trying to get my 240 volts wired to my garage; I finished on the 19th but had to fly on the 20th. So today I was able to burn metal. Thanks Jeremy, (my neighbor) for helping me wire my garage.

Day 20. Project Iron Wolf

A full day to tear down the engine. Not to bad looking; No show stoppers. Just an engine that has not been ran for two years. I will be taking block and heads and having them dipped, magna fluxed, decked, honed, balanced, and heads port/polished and rebuilt. When it is all said and done; I should have about $6500 in a full running MPFI beautiful motor.

Tappet and push rods.

Valve train looks good. Need to be cleaned up and rebuilt.

Inside the pistons, No scoring or damage. A good hone job will do.

Crank, Crank rods. looks great. Get them balanced.

Day 19. Project Iron Wolf

Another day another piece ready for the big lift. 7 March 2008 I finished up the rear Dana 60. Put about 8 hours into prep before painting. Now I need the 4 link suspension, the rear disk breaks, the 4:88 gears, break lines, and ARB locker to finish up the rear.

Day 18. Project Iron Wolf

The frame is painted ready for the 4 and 3 link suspension. I wish it only took a day to prep the frame for painting. I think I put in about 30 hours getting it ready for paint. It is 6 March 2008 when I snapped these pictures.

FOD Damage

25 Feb 2008.

What a bad day. Took the Piaggio in for inspection and this is what they found. FOD damage. Something went through our left motor and damaged the compressor. As you can see from the initial pictures this engine has to be rebuilt.

Engine stripped and ready to be removed from plane.

Off plane and getting ready to be sent to the East coast for repair. This sucks. I'm glad it did'nt fall apart in the air.

Day 17 Project Iron Wolf Pt.2

Feb 9 2008.

After spending about three and a half hours grinding I came up with this little pile of hangers. One step closer to getting my four link put on. I think I just went over a hundred hours of work on this little project.

Missing one hanger from this pile. Front left is still on the frame. Grinding wheel is now too short or small to get in and grind out weld.

I have to find out if I need to relocate the bumpstops on the front. That is why they are still there.

Rear right front spring hanger gone and body mount remaining. I think IHONLYNORTH has a newer version and may change them out.

Day 17 Project Iron Wolf Pt. 1

Feb 9 2008

Another great day here in St. George. The temp is 62 deg. The frame is rolled out and ready to meet Mr. grinder. Today Im getting the frame preped for a four link suspension system. Away goes the old leaf spring hangers. Once I get these hangers off I will be cleaning up the frame and laying some rust encapsulator down that got from Eastwood.
