Spent a little time getting some beer stuff done.

The Hops are getting big enough to start climbing. Moved the pots and ran the twine up to the roof.

Finished up the yeast wrangling. It took me two days to get all the junk out and harvest just the healthy yeast. I will be able to use this the next time I make another five gallon batch of Captain Griff's Castle.

Brewed up some Brown Ale for Griff.

This is a clone kit. It clones Newcastle Brown Ale

Drinking a Newcastle while making "Captain Griff's Castle"

Steeping grains. 13oz Crystal 50/60, and 3oz Chocolate Malt that is all mixed.

Hop's and Irish Moss.

Using the good yeast.

All done. This is its home for 7 days.

All the grains in the bag, water temp 155 deg, and it will stay in for 30 min.

Steeping grains are out and you can see the nice Amber Brown color.

Baker Dam ATV Ride.

Spent the day up at Baker Dam North of Vayo.

After the rain fall the water level was pretty high.

The Topo map showed a trail that would go through the South side of Pine Mountain and end up in the town of Pine Mountain.

The trail was very over grown and un-passable.

Beer has been in the fermentation carboys for 15 days. Time to put them into the bottles.

Beer Transfer Day

The Wort has been in the primary fermentation bucket for the last seven days. It is now beer. Now it has to go into the glass carboy for another seven days.

All set up and ready to transfer the beer into the secondary fermentation (glass) carboy.

Went and got a wall paper tray. The auto siphon fits perfect in the tray for sanitizing.

Opened the primary fermentation bucket and looks like the yeast did a good job.

Siphon is going. Glass carboy is filling with five gallons of beer.

Down to the end of the transfer. The yeast cake can now be seen.

Beer transferred. All that is left is yeast cake.

The beer is now in the glass carboy, it will stay in here for seven days. Two things are going on here. One is the final fermentation is happening and second is the clearing of the beer by letting the suspended partials to fall to the bottom. On the 29th I will transfer the beer into bottles.

Spent the day to the South of HWY 91. Went into three mines.

Came across this mine. It was not on my GPS.

This mine had three different shafts. The deepest shaft went in about 175 feet.

"I'm not going any farther!"

Waiting for the 3:10 to Yuma. Followed it about 600 ft and stopped. It kept going.

Bubbling in The Pot

16 hours after putting the WORT into the primary fermentation bucket. The yeast is going crazy and doing their job. The yeast is eating the sugars and producing C02 and alcohol. The C02 is bubbling out of the airlock and the water in the airlock is keeping all the outside air out.

There are few types of yeast out there. This one was dry.

Added two ounces of warm water to wake it up.

It's a good day to brew up five gallons of Flagstaff Honey Hefeweizen. Spent a couple of hours cleaning and getting all the equipment washed and sanitized.

Steeping the grains. Smells like bread and beer. Sharon does not approve.

And now there is WORT. It is going through the hot break. 60 more min to go.

Drinking a brew a taking in the aroma of cooking beer.

Full boil.

In the primary fermentation bucket. It will be in here for a week and then into a secondary fermentation carboy. After a week in the carboy it will be time for bottles.

I received my home-brew kit. Time to start my Iron Air Brew Company.

Got my brew system from Midwest Brew. Came today. Thanks Fed-X

Everything I need to brew my beer.

Going to start my first beer with an extract kit. Flagstaff Honey Wheat. This kit makes 5 gal.

Nottingham yeast. Little bugs to do our beer making bidding's.

This is the kit.

Specialty grains to steep with and is part of the wort.

This kit only comes with bittering hops. No flavoring hops.

Priming sugar to put into the bottling bucket. Natural C02.

Added Flagstaff honey. More sugar for the yeast to feast on.

50 bottle caps.

Extract.

The whole kit.

West Mountain ATV Ride.

Pulled out the ATV's and headed for West Mountain.

Was going to do this ride three weeks ago. I figured the snow on the west side would be gone. Wrong. There were some pretty good snow drifts on the road to the very top of West Mountain.
Our 350's just don't have the power dig through the deep snow.

Drove down the mountain and headed south, crossed HWY 91 and found some mines.

Crawled up the mountain to the entrance of the Apex mine. Went inside about 50 yards and then it got too dark. Will be going back with a good flashlight and do some spelunking.

Started working on the painting for my Scout. Broke out my Dager airbrush and cut a piece of 24" X 36"steel plate so I could practice and check some different layouts.

Started by working on the mural that will go on the Scouts rear top. It will have my Sonar insignia, my Naval rank, my Diver insignia, a Virginia class submarine, and a wolf.

Painted up a smaller version of the flame job I will be putting on the side of Ironwolf.

Since I will be shooting a green Candy over the flames I wanted to find a candy that I liked. I made a six panel to test out the candies.

So the first candy I got was called Grass Green. Don't like it. Not dark enough. Looks like electric green. Not what I want. I will be getting some Green candy from House of Color and testing that.

Started to fab up Induction snorkel sump.

Inside the box will be a 12v de-water pump. A K&N cone filter fits great in the hole.

Final layout and design. Time to break out the fiberglass and start the layup.

Worked on some more powder coating. Finished up on the engine components.

A/C compressor bracket, Water pump, and Alternator bracket with fresh black powder and ready to go into the oven.

Started on a rendering for my paint scheme. Silver top made to look like brushed stainless steel. Body is carbon and silver frames with silver and blacked wrinkle, covered in dark green candy.

What a day of flying. Baggage door came off aircraft at 30,000 ft. I was very surprised that the Piaggio flew so well with a 3 X 3 hole in the side. The worst part of the whole thing is trying to get the parts to fix it.

Have to get side windows out so I can get top sanded down and ready for some silver paint.

Plan to pry the window out and see if I can re-use the seal.

Nasty old window ready for the fight. Getting this window will be a chore.

Using some screw drivers to get the job done.

Shifted to plastic, the screwdrivers were a little nerve racking. I felt like I was going to break the window.

Getting ready and laying out the front bumper. The plan for the bumper will be made out of 1/4 plate. It will be the platform for a Warn 9000 winch, driving lights, and recovery hooks.

Putting on the rock slidders on. The plan is to add a slug in the rock slidder tubes and have the slug go through the frame. This should put added strength to the rock slidder.

Measured and drilled to start the cutting process.

Using plazma cutter to get the job done. Cutts like butter.

Mayhem at Lake Powell

Third year going to Lake Powell with the company. This year we are using both planes to get the guys to the lake.

After 20 months.

On 11 Nov 2007 I picked up this Scout II in Las Vegas NV.

After a few days sanding the body down and ready for some primer.

With the body primer ed in black, I can see the areas I need to spend some more time with a hammer and dolly. I also need to get the rear rims off and get them powdered coated.

Another day working on engine parts. Getting parts blasted and powder coated.

Powdered coated the top with silver and put it into oven. Before the cure process I took it out let it cool and masked the raised International lettering. Next is to shoot it with black.

Received the shifter for the 727 torque flight.

B&M Street Bandit Hard Core.

Set in place .

Set in place, but have to get seats in first so I can mount the shifter in the right spot. If you are wondering why there is a cooler sitting in the Scout. Well, I'm using it for seat placement. It is almost the right height.

This could be in the right spot. I have one more shifter to install and it is for the NP 231 Box for Rocks doubler. I will also have to fill the holes in the trans cover. The hole seen is where the Dana 20 shifter came through. The Dana 300 replaced the Dana 20 and was move back.

This is our YoYo ride. Griff showing off this awesome piece of machinery. But really, We have to thank the Leadville FBO for letting us use their car.

Tubing behind the boat was a blast. The wakes behind the boat can sneak up and flip you off as you just saw. Lots of fun.

Setting up Dana 300 shift levers.

Used plazma cutter to notch trans tunnel to allow shifting of Dana 300. Right stick is for FWD axle and Left is for Rear.

Dana 300 twin stick installed. Boot in place. Trans tunnel cover installed. The oval hole in upper right on cover needs to be covered up with a patch. That hole was for the Dana 20.

Started to fab up the cross member for the transmission.

This picture shows the center section that is going to be boxed.

Some tack welds. If you have kids and they don't want to learn trig because they will never use it. They will. Sitting under my rig and trying to figure out the proper angles and lengths can make you scratch your head.

First try and all angles and lengths were perfect. All tacked welded and hooked up to IHONLY's PRT transmission mount.

River Rafting the American River.

While the plane was in maintenance at Mather in Sacramento we went on a white water rafting trip on the American River. We did the middle fork.

I love this picture. The lady behind me yelling at her husband. The first rapid was a 3+ and started 5min into the trip.

After a class 4 rapid, Sharon had to spit some of the water from the river back into the river.

More class 4+. We started at 0800 and finished at 3pm. Awesome day on the water.

All suspension set up and installed.

Iron Wolf sitting on it new shoes. This picture shows the panard bar all bent so it does not hit the oil pan when the suspension starts to articulate.

First time Iron Wolf leaves garage and sitting in drive way.

Started to articulate the rear suspension. It's best to do this with a fork lift. I used my 19 in jack and a jack stands. The most I could get out of that set up was the 19in plus 10in of jack stand. There was about 4 more inches until the tire hit the wheel well. Total distance from ground to bottom of tire was 22 inches. Need to get a fork lift.

Getting the front suspension set up.

Using angle calculators to get the right angle for the pinion. Now that I have the pinion angle, the axle has to get the front "C" turned so the truck tracks right.

Front "C" have been turned and welded up. Putting the brackets put on for the four link.

Now it's Sharon's turn to put silver powder on the outer part of the rim.

Sharon is spraying silver powder on the outer part of the Hummer rim.

Finished product. The rim went back into the oven at 450deg for about 10 min. Then the temp was turned down to 400 deg to cure for 20 min.

Getting the front Hummer rims powder coated. So far I've powder coated single parts with single color. This time I'm going to use two different colors. Dark green and silver.

First I had to mask off the outer part that was going to be silver. The unmasked portion will be dark green.

Sharon's friend from Hawaii; Chris will be applying the green powder to the center of the rim.

Both rims have powder applied, in the oven, and ready to be baked for about 10 - 15 min at 450deg.

Removed from oven and tape pulled off. Now I have to mask the center and spray silver powder on the outer. This was fun, masking the center was done still hot. About 210deg hot.

Time to put the drive train into Project Iron Wolf. This is to be done to get the Pinion angle for both Front and Rear axles.

Was at LAX and I was parked next to the Prince of Dubai's Boeing 777. This was the first time I've been this close to a 777. Having the Piaggio next to it was even cooler.

This is a cool picture. Does not really show the size difference.

This picture was to show that the body of the Piaggio would pass through the engines of the 777. The diameter of the 777 engines are bigger than the body of the Piaggio.

Now you can see the size difference. The Piaggio looks like a toy.

The same day I was there; John Travolta was there with his Qantas Jet.

Back at it. Getting the rear cleaned up and powder coating all the parts.

Los Cabo Here I Come Again

Spent a few day back in Cabo. This time went with Griff. Showed him how to get into and out of Mexico. Spent twenty years looking for the Red October, I found the Red October in Cabo. :) The Navy can stop looking.

Stayed in the Marina Fiesta again. This time my room was on the marina boardwalk.

Went to the Cabo Wabo again. Such a fun place. Again the band was awesome.

This is a good picture of the point of Los Cabo. If you see the white sand beach to the right, mid picture. Griff and I walked to that beach over the mountain to the left side and hiked back to the marina. Way cool hike. The Marina Fiesta is to the Left side of the picture out of view.

Finished the hike around the mountain. You can see the Marina Fiesta behind me. When you are walking on the marina boardwalk; there are vendors that try to sell you things. If you say no thank you, then they ask you if you want some pot. We had one vendor ask that set of questions, and we said no. He then said "yea pot is bad do you want some coke?" as if coke is'nt bad. Seemed pretty funny to me.

Drove 4 hours from St. George to Salt Lake City to watch the Saving Able, Papa Roach, Avenge Sevenfold, And Buckcherry show. The show was at The E-Center. Saving Able was the first act of four. They were awesome. They sounded great.

This song was for the military. I have so much respect for these guys support for the troops.

Left down town Toronto and headed for the Niagara Falls. It took an hour and half to get here. Once here we took the Griswald approach, OK here are the Falls, lets go. I think we were only there for 20 min.

Headed down to Los Cabo. Stayed there for 4 days. The weather was pretty good. 80 deg and few clouds. There was very little humidity compared to the last time I was there.

Back at the Marina Fiesta. Was on the 7th floor and the view was pretty good.

Like I said the view was pretty good. Its always cool when you can have a Corona in the pool next to the bar.

New year. Went up to Casto Canyon near Bryce Canyon for some fun in the snow with the quads. They did alright but they only made it 3 miles up the trail before the snow got to deep.

The Bosses had their truck in the Henderson 400. They did pretty good but the desert got the best of them. They were pretty much ahead of their class when the drive line separated from the transmission.

The plane is put to bed and its time for some relaxation. The weather is around 87deg and very humid. Almost near 90%. Had a 30 min drive to the hotel, downtown Cabo.

Got the drive train back from Ontrack 4X4 and Dave's Auto. I will be putting the drive line in to get final axle lineup. I will have to mate the drive line with the motor and install into Iron Wolf.

Finally got the rear suspension set up. I now need to put the engine and drive train in to get the final angle set up for the drive line.

Four link all in place. Only thing missing is the Shocks. Not sure where I want to place the shocks.

The day to get the body put onto the frame. The suspension is going together, but I need the body to be set into place so I can get the axles set into place and rock sliders set into place.

It took six guy to lift the body off my other scout and put it on the frame of Iron Wolf.

In this picture you can see the garage door is very close to the windshield hoop. 4" of clearance.

Recieved most of the suspension from D&C Extreem. This set of pictures are the rear suspension all set in place.

This picture is the frame insert all welded up. This ties the rear four link and front three link to the frame.

This is the fifth day that I have been working on the body work. I now know why it cost so much money to get a car painted. This is a tough job. I am very glad that this body is in great shape.

I have two of the panels about 60 % done. I'm glad to report that there is only about an 1/8" of bondo at the thickest.

Hood. The black paint that was sprayed on to protect the body did a great job. The bad thing is this stuff is a pain to get off. I think they sprayed a rubberized undercoating on the whole truck.

A little more and the hood will be ready for the glaze.

Had to put this picture in. It is a humming bird in her nest. She is in the tree next to our house and looks down at me working. Very cool.

After a few weeks crawling in and out of my attic trying to get my 240 volts wired to my garage; I finished on the 19th but had to fly on the 20th. So today I was able to burn metal. Thanks Jeremy, (my neighbor) for helping me wire my garage.

A full day to tear down the engine. Not to bad looking; No show stoppers. Just an engine that has not been ran for two years. I will be taking block and heads and having them dipped, magna fluxed, decked, honed, balanced, and heads port/polished and rebuilt. When it is all said and done; I should have about $6500 in a full running MPFI beautiful motor.

Tappet and push rods.

Valve train looks good. Need to be cleaned up and rebuilt.

Inside the pistons, No scoring or damage. A good hone job will do.

Crank, Crank rods. looks great. Get them balanced.

Another day another piece ready for the big lift. 7 March 2008 I finished up the rear Dana 60. Put about 8 hours into prep before painting. Now I need the 4 link suspension, the rear disk breaks, the 4:88 gears, break lines, and ARB locker to finish up the rear.

The frame is painted ready for the 4 and 3 link suspension. I wish it only took a day to prep the frame for painting. I think I put in about 30 hours getting it ready for paint. It is 6 March 2008 when I snapped these pictures.

FOD Damage

What a bad day. Took the Piaggio in for inspection and this is what they found. FOD damage. Something went through our left motor and damaged the compressor. As you can see from the initial pictures this engine has to be rebuilt.

Engine stripped and ready to be removed from plane.

Off plane and getting ready to be sent to the East coast for repair. This sucks. I'm glad it did'nt fall apart in the air.

Day 17 Project Iron Wolf Pt.2

After spending about three and a half hours grinding I came up with this little pile of hangers. One step closer to getting my four link put on. I think I just went over a hundred hours of work on this little project.

Missing one hanger from this pile. Front left is still on the frame. Grinding wheel is now too short or small to get in and grind out weld.

I have to find out if I need to relocate the bumpstops on the front. That is why they are still there.

Rear right front spring hanger gone and body mount remaining. I think IHONLYNORTH has a newer version and may change them out.

Another great day here in St. George. The temp is 62 deg. The frame is rolled out and ready to meet Mr. grinder. Today Im getting the frame preped for a four link suspension system. Away goes the old leaf spring hangers. Once I get these hangers off I will be cleaning up the frame and laying some rust encapsulator down that got from Eastwood.

Couple views of the V345. What a pain in the butt it was finding a engine stand for this little jewel. Even my third try was a nogo. I had to get a mounting bracket made to accomodate the width of the block.

Little by little I'm getting it cleaned up.

As soon as I power wash it a few more times I will be removing the carb and intake manifold.

Get that old grime off. and put a fresh coat of paint on.

I will be changing out the cam, lifters, starter, alternator, intake and exhaust manifold with new stuff like ISKY cams, lifters, Hight output alternator, aluminum intake, Stans exhaust, and putting in a fuel injection system to make this baby really talk.
